The Canberra Environment Centre is a non-profit environmental education centre.
We work directly with the community to ensure the best environmental outcomes for the ACT through targeted education, information and practical application. We recognise that a healthy and vibrant community is much more able to take care of itself and its environment than a fragmented one.
Our projects support the community to nourish itself and the environment together, and to sustain themselves into the future.
Imagine a garden that grows itself. Your time in your backyard spent harvesting fresh produce and optimising designs rather than battling weeds or struggling to irrigate. This is the principle of permaculture – a system of designed, permanent agriculture – to work with, rather than against nature.

It can take a bit of creative thinking to use up this produce while it is available. Stewing fruit is a quick and easy way of using large amounts of fruit quickly.
While they can be difficult or annoying to deal with at times, some weeds are edible, delicious or useful in other ways.
We like using home made pest control remedies because they're generally safer on humans, pets and our environment, plus they're pretty inexpensive to make.
