Bees at Home: Hives, Habitat & Forage
An introduction to responsible beekeeping, native bees and creating a pollinator-
friendly garden
Celebrate Australian Pollinator Week!
Join Jon Darvill, backyard beekeeper with Canberra Region Beekeepers, and Dr Charles
Blumer from ACT for Bees + Other Pollinators for an introduction to the fascinating world of
home beekeeping and caring for pollinators.
Jon will introduce you to the joys and challenges of keeping honeybees at home, including
what you need to know to become a responsible backyard beekeeper and help your bees
thrive.
Charlie will explore the importance of providing bees with a diverse and nutritious range of
flowering plants throughout the seasons. He’ll also introduce some of Canberra’s amazing
native bees and share simple ways we can provide food, habitat and nesting places for these
essential pollinators in our gardens, schools and communities.
Whether you’re thinking about keeping a hive, already have bees, or simply want to make
your garden more pollinator-friendly, come along and discover how you can help create a
healthier environment for bees and other pollinators.
