Learn how to save seeds from your own herb and veggie garden. Saving seeds allows more diverse, interesting and resilient varieties of food to be grown. It means growing varieties that are adapted to Canberra, and it means saving time and resources when you don't have to buy seeds or seedlings every year. Through seed saving you can build your own household resilience as well as connecting with a community of backyard food growers and seed savers through the Seed Savers network. Seed Saving is easy, interesting and fun!
In this hands-on workshop with Canberra Seed Savers, we will explain how seed saving works and how you can get started straight away without technical knowledge or special equipment. You’ll learn how to save and store seed from vegetables and herbs so you have a wide and resilient seed collection for years to come. And you’ll get to give it a go!
You will also learn about how seeds grow and reproduce and how to start your garden with the right conditions and plants for seed saving (as well as producing lots of yummy food!). There will be plenty of opportunities for questions too and participants go home with a couple of packets of seed and a handout guide to seed saving.
Seed saving is easy, economical and empowering!
