We had so much fun at Floriade, with our previous director Fiona Veikkanen hosting all kinds of garden-themed workshops. We had a rainy composting workshop, a popular seed bomb-making workshop and finally, Propagation Station! We showed so many people how to easily propagate all different kinds of pollinator-attracting plants that work well in full sun. We will be hosting another one of these at the Gungaderra Community Garden on Saturday the 5th of December!
Everything is blooming in the garden, and we are harvesting SO MANY SNOW PEAS. We went a bit wild planting these over winter, all at different stages, so even though our first lot have well and truly died back, there are still plenty more. Our purple-podded peas are also a huge hit, even though they're sort of labour-intensive to harvest and pod. Worth it for the sweet taste! Every year, we make sure we leave enough peas on the vine to puff out, dry and save seed for next season. All our peas this year have been grown from last year's saved seeds. It is such a cool and cost-effective way to grow your own protein source!
Our tomatoes are in now, with many more to come, and we will be crossing our fingers and toes for no harsh frosts. We started some very early in the greenhouse and have been potting them up but letting them live in there, and they are already fruiting! If you want to learn more about growing tomatoes or anything else, drop by one of our Thursday morning garden sessions at Gungaderra Community Garden, 9:30–11 am. We also have two more Saturday sessions, one on Saturday the 7th of November and one on Saturday the 5th of December. Check our events page for more info :) See you in the garden!
