Garden Update — October

Mayu and Sam planting out some spaghetti squash (yes I know we are brave and a frost might get them but we have some spare and wanted to take a chance!) Hoping to grow one up over the trellis!

The garden is absolutely popping off with this warm start to spring! We even have watermelon seeds coming up in the greenhouse. We have been so grateful to our volunteers who have been stopping by on a Thursday morning to help out. All our hard work is now paying off in snow pea harvests.

We put a call out for strawberry runners to revamp our patch and the wonderful homesteader Jyoti delivered. Thanks so much, Jyoti! We planted them all out and can’t wait to see them bloom. Strawberry plants do their best fruiting when they are 2 or 3 years old, so we think our previous patch might be nearing the end of its productive period.

In sad news our irrigation is in the process of being fixed after the timber cracked during a frozen winter morning but on the other hand we have a globe artichoke flower!?!? See below. Our worm farm is also out of action while we create the best new home for our worms to devour food scraps. Compost bins open!

Our Saturday morning sessions will be back for November and December, so keep an eye out on our events page! No October Saturday session due to the public holiday. We can’t wait to see you in the garden before the end of the year. Stop by for a garden tour and see what we are growing — you won’t leave empty handed!

If you’re new to gardening or have years of experience, we would love to hang out and learn with you. Every Thursday, 9:30–11am.
