Join us for a tour of Stepping Stone’s WISE Urban Farm
Join us for a guided tour of Stepping Stone Urban Farm, a unique community farm creating pathways to employment for women from migrant and refugee backgrounds.
Led by our expert gardener and facilitator, Fiona Bunning, the farm is part of our Seeds to Harvest work integration training program. Through hands-on learning, participants develop foundational gardening skills while gaining experience in planning, planting and maintaining a micro market garden.
Located in the vacant lot next to our Dickson Café, the farm is being transformed into a productive urban growing space featuring 20 garden beds, each 5m x 1m. The beds will be used to grow seasonal vegetables for our cafés, connecting the work of our participants directly to the food we serve our community.
During the tour, you’ll learn more about how the farm is being developed, the Seeds to Harvest program, and the people and purpose behind it. You’ll also have the opportunity to see the garden beds, hear about what’s growing, and discover how you can support and get involved.
About the Facilitator
Fiona Buining is passionate about growing plants, especially food plants and is inspired to create pathways for future food growers in urban areas. She and her husband Michael have used permaculture principles to design their urban farm in Ainslie with over 50 fruit trees, nuts, berries, vegetables, two beehives, chickens and working rabbits that help prepare garden beds.
Fiona was awarded a Churchill Fellowship in 2020 to investigate urban farm ventures that provide vocational pathways for aspiring food growers. Fiona believes that growing good food is one of the most positive actions people can do for their own health and to heal the planet.
