Q&A with Bianca Knox

Bianca Knox, Project Officer at the Canberra Environment Centre

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and what brought you to the Canberra Environment Centre?

Hi! I’m Bianca, I have a background in architecture but spent my studies and time in the industry focused on ways in which the built environment can leave a lighter footprint on the natural world. This focus has continuously shown me how important community is in creating positive change and resilient, local systems. Through this I started following CEC’s work and dreaming of being part of the team which I am so excited to now join!

What’s your role here, and what kind of projects will you be working on?

I’m a project officer at CEC, my main focus will be on the community garden and organising/running new, fun and engaging workshops.

What’s one fun or surprising fact about you that most people don’t know?

I can’t swim even though I grew up by the beach..

Do you have a favourite local spot in Canberra to connect with nature?

I love a cold swim at Uriarra crossing or a walk up Mount Painter. Both places where my dog Oatie can join me for the adventure.

What does “living sustainably” mean to you personally?

Living more locally and tapping into resources within my community that I can contribute back to, being part of circular systems rather than linear ones.

What’s one easy sustainability tip you’d share with the community?

Quit eating animals and eat more seasonal veg. Quick and easy way to reduce your emissions!

Do you have any final remarks you’d like to share with the community?

Come and hang out at the Gungaderra community garden drop in sessions on Thursday mornings 9:30 - 11am
