Welcoming our new director
Dear CEC Community,
I am thrilled to step into the Director’s role this winter and thank the team here – the committee; staff members Laura, Geordie, Kelly, Ying, and Murray; and our wonderful former Executive Director Fiona – for the warm welcome.
My background is in environmental journalism and communication, education, community arts, and in projects designed to share ideas and actions for living better, happier lives while cherishing and protecting nature.
Outside work, my best weekends are spent bushwalking, picnicking, having time with my two young kids, and, where possible, swimming in a waterhole, beach, or river. Sundays at my place are dubbed “bush Sunday” (cue some groaning from said kids), so I love to get out and about, explore new places, and enjoy the ACT’s gorgeous nature reserves, parks, and walking trails – particularly when these include old, towering gum trees and our stellar cast of birds.
Working in service of the CEC community excites me, as our bike Recyclery, community garden, and accessible, practical education offerings are helping to create the connected, climate-resilient city we deeply need. Each of these CEC pillars embodies slow, planet-friendly living - nourishing antidotes to a world in flux.
I look forward to seeing what we can make together, so please drop me a line to share any ideas or suggestions for what you’d like CEC to offer you, or what you’re keenly needing or dreaming of right now in the sustainability, environment, and climate space.
With warmest wishes,
Jennifer.
