Following our August Impact Hour, we were delighted to launch Season 4 of the Canberra Environment Centre’s Local Environment Heroes podcast to a full room at Dissent Café & Bar. It was a wonderful chance to celebrate the new series with three of its featured guests: food systems expert Dr Amy Carrad, Red Hill Regenerator Dr Mike Mulvaney and climate scientist Emeritus Professor Mark Howden AC.

Across the first episode, Amy Carrad explores how the way we grow, produce, share and eat food can create both environmental and social change. The conversation looks beyond individual consumer choices to the systems, policies and communities that can help build a fairer and more sustainable food future.

In Episode 2, Mike Mulvaney shares the extraordinary story of regenerating Red Hill and the remarkable wildlife that has returned to the landscape, including its much-loved Gang-gang Cockatoos. It is a hopeful local story about persistence, community action and the possibility of ecological recovery.

Episode 3 features Mark Howden reflecting on almost four decades of climate work: what has changed, what has not, and what keeps him going. His conversation offers a grounded and generous perspective on the long game of climate action, and the importance of continuing to work for change even when the challenges feel immense.
