Queer Trails & Tales: explore nature through a queer lens
Queer Trails & Tales Promotional Poster
This spring and summer, the Canberra Environment Centre is inviting LGBTQIA+ community members, allies and curious nature-lovers to get outside with Queer Trails & Tales: a series of six guided walks celebrating Canberra’s landscapes, wildlife and biodiversity through a queer lens.
Across the program, local experts bring together science, storytelling and community to explore the fascinating diversity of the natural world. From orchids and fairy-wrens to wetland wildlife, woodland restoration and Australia’s remarkable plant life, each small-group walk offers a welcoming way to learn more about the ecosystems on our doorstep—and the stories they hold.
Our guides include conservation researcher Tina Gopalan; mycologist, botanist and ANU researcher Dr Ryan O’Donnell; biologist and science educator Dr Diego de Moura Campos; and ecologist and evolutionary biologist Dr Jenny Evans. Together, they bring expertise in wildlife conservation, botany, ecology, evolution and environmental education, alongside a shared enthusiasm for helping people connect with nature.
The program includes:
Bloom with Pride: Hidden Orchids of Black Mountain with Dr Ryan O’Donnell — sold out
Glide with Pride: A Greater Glider Spotlight Walk with Tina Gopalan
Fairy Fabulous: The Secret Lives of Fairy-wrens with Dr Jenny Evans — sold out
Rooting for Nature: An Introduction to Australia’s Remarkable Plants with Dr Ryan O’Donnell
