Recyclery Update — August
This month we had our first social ride… and it was fantastic!! At first, the weather was the classic Canberra cold - the fog was so thick you could hardly see 5 metres in front! I was so glad that I had brought a buff, some warm gloves, and my trusty green rain jacket as a windbreaker! Luckily, by the time we finished the ride and pedalled to Gang Gang, the sun was out and shining.
We had such an amazing group; everyone was so enthusiastic to be there. It was awesome to hear that for many, it was their first social ride. It was also great to see that one of our attendees was riding a bike they bought from The Recyclery, and another was riding a bike they fixed on our most recent Bike Service Course (shameless plug! Get tickets to our next course here).
The vibes were so positive that we have decided to move up our next event and make the social rides a monthly occurrence!

Upon request of the event’s attendees, the next route will be at Mulligan’s Flat. This will be a little bit longer - approximately 20km and 270m elevation. There will be a small summit of Gooroo Hill. It shouldn’t be too tough… from what I can tell, it will be a short (but steep-ish) climb - around 100 metres over 1.5km. I’ve included the elevation stats for anyone who wants a breakdown. For anyone worried about the summit, think of how much fun the downhill will be!

BUT before that, we do have a super awesome and free community BBQ on August 1st. We will be cooking up a storm - it will be sausage sizzle galore. The BBQ begins at 12 pm, and is open to everyone! It doesn’t matter if you have never been to our location before… now is the perfect time. ALSO, our lovely volunteer Paul will be playing a DJ set on a vinyl record player. Now you can’t tell me that does not beat the current house music craze going around Canberra at the moment.
We cannot wait to see how August goes. I think it’s going to be a real fun one!
