Making Sustainable Clothing Choices

A conversation about clothes

We sometimes leave home without eating but never without dressing. Clothes are integral to life. What we wear matters in practical, emotional and material ways so let’s talk about how we choose, wear and care for clothes. Join this interactive discussion about clothes in an everyday context – what fibres they are made from, how we choose them and how we manage our wardrobe. We will reflect on how clothing choices fit into environmental awareness and healthful, engaged lifestyles. This conversation will be led by special guest presenter, Jane Milburn, based on a philosophy of living lightly on Earth through the everyday practice of how we wear and care for our clothes to limit waste and pollution.

About Jane Milburn

Australian social entrepreneur and author Jane Milburn brings a health and wellbeing context to how we choose, wear and care for clothes. Jane’s Slow Clothing book and philosophy builds on her earlier career in agricultural science, journalism and communications before establishing Textile Beat in Brisbane in 2013 as a leadership response to textile waste. In an era dominated by passive consumption of cheap and synthetic fashion, Jane presents a compelling case for why we need to change the way we dress to live lightly on Earth through everyday practice.
