Sustainable Fashion: Intro to Embroidery

  • Canberra Environment Centre Crn Lennox Crossing & Lawson Crescent Acton, ACT, 2601 (map)

Join us to learn the basics of embroidery and design a map of your daily walk or your favourite spot in nature.

Embroidery is a wonderful way to repurpose and upcycle clothing and fabric. Learn to hand embroider a custom map of a place that is meaningful to you, or your favourite part of a bushland walk. This class is a celebration of your daily routes, gardens or your favourite spot in the bush. It is a map of your happy place.

Join artist Pinal Maniar of Abeer Gulal to map your walk, develop a drawing of this map, and transfer your map onto fabric. Using a variety of stitches, participants will embroider their observations and route through nature, embellishing the map with motifs of their favourite flower, tree, bird and patterns seen around.

This course is for all levels. During the workshop, we will sketch a map and get started on embroidering the map onto fabric. Participants will get to take home the beginnings of their embroidery art along with an embroidery hoop so that they can continue creating their artwork at home.

All materials are included in the cost of the workshop.

Tickets are $90(+bf).
