Garden Tour: Designing a Multi-functional Garden

This tour and discussion session is ideal for those seeking inspiration and practical tips and techniques for designing or enhancing their own multi-functional gardens.

Participants will see an example of how a beautiful entertainer’s garden, also serves as a productive and sustainable garden; complete with an espaliered orchard, chickens, bees, vegetables, glasshouse, studio, play area, composting zones, and art and sculptures.

The tour demonstrates:​

  • how good design can create a residential garden with multiple functions and

  • effects

  • how to incorporate sustainable practices without compromising aesthetics

  • how to increase garden productivity throughout the seasons and maximise

  • small spaces​​

Interactive discussion will focus on:

  • benefits of layered and diverse planting

  • permaculture and water-wise principles

  • healthy soil, mulches and pest/weed/disease management and processes

  • low-cost landscaping options and examples

  • providing design suggestions and fresh ideas

  • suitable plant choices and combinations

The tour is led by landscape designer, Fleur (of Gardens with Fleur ), in her own

residential garden. Its inception is due to Fleur’s passion for beautiful and useful residential garden design and a belief that good design of outdoor spaces enhances people’s health and wellbeing. Fleur built her garden from 2016 to showcase and experiment with design ideas, techniques, structures and plantings. She conducts tours, workshops, catered events and private functions to provide a beautiful setting, inspiration and ideas for others to enjoy.
